Do You Remember When . . .
Back in the days, we spend quite a number of our spring breaks putting together 2-by-4s, discarded wheels, old chains and links, and other seemingly useless materials for a go kart. Go karts and go kart racing have been a significant part of most of our childhoods. And we do have some rather unforgettable memories careening all afternoon through the neighborhood streets on these jumbled yet surprisingly safe contraptions.

Young kids, teenagers, and even adults who have a need for speed are also likely to go shopping for anything related to go karts – air filters, throttle cable, hand brakes, helmet, battery, chassis, and motors for sale. You can buy ready to use go carts in most car and motor dealers and stores, both online and at your local car outlets. Prices can depend on the features of the kart itself. But hey, you can save a good amount of money as well as get the thrill of making something for yourself on a DIY go kart project. Not only is this a rewarding endeavor but the ride is so much fun when you know you’re riding on something you’ve personally made.

However, don’t be misled that it’s all that easy. You will need to be quite handy with tools and, of course, have the tools and materials you would need to be readily available before you start on your go kart project. The most basic things you need are measuring devices, hammer, welder, saw, pipe bender, chalk, a steering wheel, the wheels and axles, disc brakes, chains, and angle iron. You can then add whatever additional material you want, such as a horse-powered engine perhaps. No pushing and shoving needed when you have a nice motor.

And here’s another pointer, a must-do as a matter of fact is that when you are building and designing a go cart for your kids, safety is always first priority. A four- to five-horsepowered engine that can go as fast as 15 mph is good and safe enough for beginners and children aged eight to ten.

When purchasing parts, it is very important to keep your budget in mind. If you have an unconstrained budget, then by all means, buy all the parts brand new. Any of the major manufacturing companies offer good quality parts you can use in your project. Nonetheless, working with a tight budget doesn’t mean you can’t put together a good-looking go kart that will be the envy of the neighborhood. Gather all resources you have at home, and buy what you just can’t do without.

For instance, when looking at go cart motors for sale, test ride the motor before purchasing. Also, if the seller has had problems starting the engine, you will likely run into the same problem. One more piece of advice, go carts usually foul up spark plugs for some reason, and you’ll be amazed at how great the motor runs when you’ve replaced them. Replace your go cart spark plugs regularly, make that a habit.

You can buy a go kart or you can make one yourself, whatever it may be, you’ll surely have one of the best rides of your life in one of those go cart racing competitions of the neighborhood.
